MarketsWheat grown in California is marketed to flour mills, used for feed, and exported. California wheat prices are impacted by the same set of factors that affect US wheat prices in general.
Wheat is a grain commodity traded in the United States through the Kansas City Board of Trade, the Chicago Board of Trade, and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Prices for most wheat sold in California is based on the Kansas City Board of Trade, where futures and options contracts are traded on hard red winter wheat. Durum wheat does not trade through a Board or Exchange.
The California Weekly Grain Report and the California Grain and Feed report can be viewed through USDA's website. These reports are updated weekly and provide historical prices of California wheat from recent weeks, and price comparisons with the same week last year. Keep in mind that California wheat is marketed in Cwt. (100 lbs.) or short tons, as compared to bushels. See Unit Equivalents and Conversion Factors for comparisons.

WeatherCalifornia Farm WeatherŪ. This is a service of the California Farm Bureau. They report on current conditions and forecasts, and have radar, satellite, and degree day maps.
Weekly California Weather & Crop Bulletin. This report, issued weekly, reports on crop planting progress, crop development, and harvesting progress. It also includes degree days, temperature, and precipitation as compared to normal for weather stations throughout California.
National Weather Service
Drought Monitor provides a map of the United States showing which areas are in a drought. Click on a specific state to get more detailed information for that state.
