USDA's 2013 Winter wheat production forecast is 816 thousand tons, unchanged from June's forecast, and 3% above last year's production numbers. This increase is due to a slight increase in estimated harvested acreage.
The July 1, 2013 forecast for harvested Durum acreage was increased from 85,000 to 90,000 acres, while the yield was rduced 5% from June to July. 2013 Durum production is now estimated at 256.5 thousand tons, a very slight increase from June. Durum wheat is still forecasted down 40% from 2012.
Total wheat and durum production in California is estimated to be 1,072,500 tons, down 12% from last year.
